17 years of Experience in Computer
Re-Manufacturing and Export Logistics

Mary Tiong, President, Second Life ComputerIn 1990, Ms. Tiong began her career in Malaysia.  Ms. Tiong was the sole distributor for Lite-On, an original equipment manufacturer for computer monitors.  Lite-On manufactured computer monitors for Dell, IBM, Compaq, Viewsonic, and Packard Bell.  Lite-On was required to sell and distribute five percent of its production to the local Malaysian market.  Lite-On moved its manufacturing operation to China in 1998.

In 1998, Ms. Tiong decided to change her market focus.  She realized that every computer system needed a computer monitor.  She decided to go into the re-manufacturing and re-furbishing of used computer monitors due to her extensive experience and contacts.  In 1999, she decided to expand into re-manufacturing of used computer systems.

She needed a steady supply of used computer monitors and system equipment.  She focused on the United States in 1998.  In 2000, she expanded into Australia.  In 2004, she expanded once again into Canada.  In fact in Malaysia, she was known as the “monitor queen.”

In 2001, she began to convert used computer monitors to 14-inch and 21-inch televisions for villages in third world countries that can only get 1 to 3 channels.  The televisions typically run off generators.

Ms. Tiong came to Pittsburgh in 2004, and created Babylon Industries, the owner of Second Life Computers. She has worked with school districts, municipalities, and many local public and private companies, including law firms, accounting firms, pharmacies, and technology companies. A client list is available on request.
