The Collecting and Shipping Process

1. 2.

Discarded computers are stored, taking up valuable warehouse space (fig. 1). Second Life Computer is hired to remove the computers and free up the space. The computers are repackaged and efficiently loaded onto the truck for delivery to the Pittsburgh Warehouse. (fig. 2)

3. 4.

The computers are sorted by type and carefully made into pallets in the Pittsburgh warehouse (fig.3). In the case of a large pick-up, the computers and monitors are sometimes unloaded from the truck directly onto pallets that will be shipped to Asia (fig.4).

5. 6.

The ocean-going container is loaded with the pre-sorted monitors (fig. 5) and CPU's (fig 6.)

7. 8.

The container is transported to the docks, where they are loaded onto a container ship, a cargo ship that carries all of its load in truck-size containers.

9. 10.

The computers and monitors arrive at the warehouse in Malaysia (fig. 9) where they are tested to determine if they will be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, or recycled, depending upon their condition (fig.10).
